The muse is missing

Not a great writing day. I have been trying to write one scene all morning and not matter how many tweaks, massages or full-on re-writes I tried it was just not coming out right.

So I went for a walk (without the dogs) and ended up stopping by a friend's place.

She happened to be at a sticking point with her current project and she suggested that we take a break for lunch.

And so we did:

Just getting a change of scenery helped to clear the cobwebs a bit.

We ended up choosing a Greek/Mediterranean/Turkish cafe. Clearly the cafe had trouble picking just one theme.

We decided to sit out on the patio and enjoy the gorgeous weather.

I decided on the Inegol Kofte Kebab.

My friend picked the Lamb&Beef Gyros Wrap.

Inegol Kafte Kebab.

Lamb&Beef Gyros Wrap.

They put a lot of meat in the Gyros!

My meal was good but not great. I think it was more of a texture thing. The kebab I ordered had a bit of chew to it and I prefer tender meats.

But that didn't stop me from finishing all the meat and most of the veggies.

And almost all of the mushroom sauce.

My friend raved about her Lamb&Beef Gyro - so that dish was the hit of the lunch.

And after lunch we strolled across the street to:

And we both got a cup of lemon sorbetto. I was too busy enjoying my sorbetto to take a picture:-)

Now, I am heading back to the keyboard (well, I am already at the keyboard, but you know what I mean) and tackle this troublesome scene head-on.

Wish me luck!

  1. That mushroom sauce is intriguing...I wonder how it's made?
But I don't think meat should ever be chewy...tender is the way to go.

  2. Emily! I don't know what you mean by chewy, but that sounds like it wasn't cooked completely maybe. Ack! I can't eat meat if it's not cooked all the way through!

  3. I LOVE LOVE Gyros! The best was in Greece, where they put fries IN the gyros...yummy!

I don't think it was undercooked. I think it was chewy because it was slightly overcooked or the texture of the minced meat was chewy.
