Sandwiches, Central Park and running bras

I ordered new running shoes for my trip. I expected them to arrive while I was in Massachusetts (I had them shipped to the hotel) but the shipment was delayed and they arrived after I left.

The hotel was happy to send them to me via FedEx to my hotel in NYC. Supposedly they went out this afternoon but this morning I started to get worried that they would arrive to late to get my run in this week.

I located a running store a few blocks away and picked up another pair of running shoes. Why get shoes right now?? It is supposed to start raining tomorrow afternoon and keep raining for at least a couple of days.

Then I realized I forgot to pack my running bra - the woman at the running store mentioned a big Nike store a few streets over.

Hello happiness:

The store was huge!

It was at least 4 floors -

And here is a travel tip for any runners out there who are well-endowed and running without a good bra (as in these babies need to be really locked down or there will be no running possible) -

I knew it was a slim possibility to find the body-armor-type running bra I usually wear so I got what Nike labels as a 'high impact bra' (it is soooo NOT) and grabbed a regular shelf running bra in one size too small.

I will wear both of them and it should be good makeshift super supportive running bra solution.

And I have to say that Asics shoe colors just keep getting worse and worse. Check it out:

It looks like they couldn't decide on just one color and they decided to pick ALL of the fluorescent colors

On the way back to the hotel I stopped in here for a sandwich:

After a short rest, I caught a taxi to the American Museum of Natural History.

My favorite part of this museum are the dioramas.

Then I took a long walk back to the hotel through Central Park.

The water was this bizarre shade of green - eww.

I strolled by this great big open meadow.

I am off to dinner at a cool Parisian style restaurant near the hotel (at least I hope it will be cool:-)).

*Fingers crossed* that the pictures I take at dinner actually come out.

Night all!

Protein oatcakes

Since I am getting back into the gym habit, I thought I would experiment with the standard oatmeal and egg whites breakfast.

Enter these:

Protein oatcakes.
You can make them sweet by adding in things like apples or banana but of course I chose the savory route.

I combined 1 cup of cooked oatmeal with 1 1/2 Tbsp. of egg whites, a pinch of sage, a pinch of salt and lots of cracked black pepper.

They went into a saute pan with a little coconut oil. Next time I think I will cook them in the oven.

I topped them with some Tofutti cream cheese.

Protein cakes with chopped apple.

This morning was definitely a coffee morning.

And I am definitely sore after my workout yesterday. But I will be heading back to the gym today - gotta keep the momentum going.

And I will have a protein oatcake recipe in the future - I just need to figure out the cooking temp and time for cooking them in the oven.

Oh, and I bought new running shoes which I desperately needed.

Check out the difference in the soles -

I had worn down one side of the heel almost to the white part.

Savory oatmeal and running step two

I think I need to get a new pair of running shoes.

The heels on both shoes are worn almost all the way down on one side.

The treads are worm completely off the heels.

So, even though I am still at the walk/shuffle stage - I am going to invest in a new pair of running shoes.

To fuel my second step into my 'getting back to running' program I made some savory oatmeal.

Oatmeal topped with pureed sweet potatoes with a dollop of greek yogurt and a sprinkle of slivered almonds.

This combination turned out great. I mixed it all together and finished the whole bowl!

I also had a 1/2 a banana:

I also broke out a gift my sister brought back for me after her trip to Japan.

A ceramic lemon juicer.

I know it is meant for lemons - but it worked pretty well for making fresh squeezed orange juice for one.

An espresso cup size of orange juice and a cappuccino cup size of coffee.
What I am really liking about the 100% Kona coffee? I can make it really strong and it never gets bitter. Definitely my kind of coffee!

Time to go walk/shuffle...
